What is this blog?
It serves a couple purposes.
First, I wanted to hang something on my new site, so I needed something. Second, I decided to try a new hobby, winemaking, and thought it might be fun to document it online rather than in a paper log (don't know why I thought that - probably something about it being the future). Then when I thought about it, I realized I've been gravitating to (or been attracted by) the idea of harnessing microbial critters to make things to drink and eat. So then I had a theme! I'm going to use the page to store recipes, document experiments, etc. And as these things go, I'm going to try to force myself to try new things to have more things to write here - and to fill out category headers, etc.
So at the moment I can think of a few things that need microbes to work, sorted by microbial assistant:
Yeast
Beer - I haven't done much brewing in the last few years, but may get back into it if the winemaking is a success. Although I drink a lot more wine than beer these days.
Wine! - That's the current obsession. Hopefully this section will be active in the near future.
Bread - been doing this for a few years now.
Fungus
Cheese - I've been strongly attracted to cheese making, and it doesn't look too hard. Expect some activity along these lines in the coming winter.
Lactobacillus
Yogurt
Pickles
Acetobacter
Vinegar
I'll probably come up with more if I think about it for a while...
Now I'm going to make some links on the sidebar to different pages for the different things...
